Jackie Wilson is a West Australian greyhound trainer of over ten years. Working as a hobby trainer, Jackie hosts a small kennel of four to six dogs.
Having a smaller number of dogs in her kennel allows Jackie to be very much hands on, and she can recognise their personalities and quirks and give each dog the attention they need. Each dog is an individual with the way they behave and interact with other dogs and humans, and no two dogs train the same way. Some have natural talent and everything is easy for them, while others need more work.
Jackie’s greatest achievement as a greyhound trainer has been winning the 2018 Birthday Cup (Group 3) with Miss Bamsy. Also being a licenced greyhound breeder within WA, Jackie has whelped down two litters to Miss Bamsy. The first 12 weeks spent with the pups are some of the most tiring… but also rewarding, Jackie says. Sleeping in the whelping room with them for the first week and watching their behaviour, along with the mums demeanour towards her pups. Interacting with the pups at an early age helps their development – so it’s tiring, but rewarding!
Jackie’s current statistics show a 13.8% win and 43.8% place strike rate. Her most successful year was 2018 with 44 wins and 72 placing from 201 starters.
